Material Information
There are many sign backing materials available in the market today. Below is a guideline for information purposes.
Sign Substrates
Alumalite® - is a strong aluminum composite panel with a high density corrugated polyallomer core that will not swell, wick water, corrode, rot, or delaminate due to prolonged water exposure. Alumalite is very durable and lightweight. Vinyl adheres very well to this material. It has an average outdoor life expectancy of 10 years, and is warranted not to crack, chip, flake or peel.
ProLite™ - similar to Alumalite but is double sided.
Econolite™ - will not swell or hold water which leads to rotting, available in a wide variety of colours.
The above materials are ideal for outdoor signage including highway billboards and storefront signs. They are built to last 10 years. Vinyl adheres very well to these materials.
Coroplast™ - Corrugated plastic backing available in 4mm or 10mm, twinwall plastic sheeting made out of corrugated plastic produced from high impact polypropolyene copolymer, available in a wide range of colours. This material is ideal for event and real estate signs.
Aluminium Sheet Metal – is mostly used for road safety signs, often with a reflective material.
PVC or Sintra® Board
Sintra is a lightweight yet rigid board of moderately expanded closed-cell polyvinyl chloride (PVC) extruded in a homogenous sheet with a low gloss matte finish. This material works well for trade show signage.
